Ish Chintan – Holy Thoughts

Om bhūr bhuva-svah
tatsaviturvarenyam.
bhargo devasya dhimahi
dhiyo yo nah pracodayāt

O Almighty! Thou art the giver of life, the remover of pains and sorrows, and the bestower of happiness.
O creator of the Universe, may we receive the supreme sin-destroying light. May thou guide our intellect in the right direction.


Om saccidānanda
Namostu paramātmane
jyotirmaya svarūpāya
viswa-māngalya-murtaye

Om, I bow to the Supreme Almighty, who is the very form of truth, Consciousness and Bliss; is the one illuminated being and is the very image of universal good.


Prakrtih pañca bhūtāni
grahā lokā svarāstathā
disah kālasca sarvesām
sadā kurvantu mangalam

May the nature composed of three qualities, i.e. Satwa, Rajas and Tamas guna; the five elements viz. earth, water, fire, air, space; the nine planets and fourteen worlds; the seven notes of music with all their variations; the ten directions and time past, present and future all these cause perpetual good to us.


Ratnākarā dhautapadām
himālaya kirītinīm
brahma-rājarsi-ratnādhyām
vande bhārata-mātaram

Our salutations to Bharat Mata whose feet are being washed by the waves of the ocean, who is crowned by the snowy Himalayas, whose illustrious children have distinguished themselves as brahmarishis and rajarishis.


Īśāvāsyamidam sarvam
yatkiñca jagatyām jagat
tena tyaktena bhuñjīthā
Mā grdhah kasyasvid-dhanam

This entire universe is pervaded by the Almighty, for the reason that it is dependent upon primordial nature, which in its turn is also pervaded by that Almighty. That Almighty alone is thus independent without a beginning and without an end. For this reason, enjoy whatever is given to you by the Almighty, protect the Self by renunciation.
Access it by passive awareness. Lust not after any others wealth.


Asato mā sadgamaya
tamaso mā jyotir gamaya
mrityor mā amrtam. gamaya

Almighty, lead me from unreal to real. Lead me from darkness to light. Lead me from mortality to immortality.


Sarve bhavantu sukhinah
sarve santu nirāmayāh
sarve bhadrāni paśyantu
mā kascid duhkabhāg bhavet

Let all be happy.
Let all be free from diseases.
Let all see auspicious things and positive in all. Let nobody suffer from grief.


Om pūrna-mada. pūrna-midam.
pūrnāt. pūrna-mudacyate.
pūrnasya. pūrna-mādāya.
pūrna-mevā-vashishyate

That (Absolute Brahman) is Infinite. This (Manifested Brahman, the Universe) is also infinite.
This infinite has manifested from that infinite. Infinite being taken out from infinite, what remains is also infinite.


Sum gacchhadhwam
sum vadaddhwam
sum vo manansi jānatām
devā bhāgam yathā pūrve
sum jānānā upāsate

Walk together, talk together; let your minds apprehend alike, in like manner as the ancient gods concurring; accepted their portion of sacrifice.


Samāno mantrah samitih samānī samānam manah saha-cittameśām
samānam mantra-mabhimantraye vah, samānena vo havisā juhomi

Common be the prayer of these (assembled worshippers);
common be the acquirement and the purpose, associated be the desire,
I repeat for you the common prayer, I offer you a common obligation.
